On September 29th my team and I met with Safechat SV, having our introductory meeting. See our take aways below.

What are the biggest issue(s) your clients are having now?/ What should we focus on?

  • Feedback survey, spreadsheets of results, reaching the most amount of survivors as they can, becoming more mobile friendly, formatting doesn’t fit on one page, the buttons are expanded,

making sure survivors knowing what to do, or what resources are out           there, and promoting additional.
What do you want your clients’ experience to be like when accessing your site’s features?

  • Being able to easily navigate, seeking help is already overwhelming, we want to make the website as seamless as possible.

What potential ideas do you have that you would like to see?

  • Depends on what route we want to take.

What constraints do you have? (materials, time, budget, etc.)

  • Last semester: $200.

  • Flexible.

  • Time constraints: our quarter.

How is your website ran?

  • Boxes with pre made responses, with faqs, and pre defined content.

WhaT Issues are you currently facing?

  • Starting a text service soon.

  • Confidentially issue with last 5 digits of number.

  • No response for waiting period if no one is online.

  • No automated texts.

  • Timing not correct sometimes on website popup (green open, orange closed).
Is there anything we can do to make the Google Translate widget better and more accessible?

Google Translate isn’t always the best, if there is time this could be a possibility.

How do you feel about some sort of login system so users don’t have to fill out a form when chatting online?

  • Issues with confidentiality.

What features of the website are used least? Which features are used the most?

  • More emails vs. live chat.

  • May be more hesitant to chat in real time.

  • Almost twice as much email.

  • Maybe due to survivors being near perpetrators during the day.

How are you marketing to your target audience?

  • Newsletter to send out to survivors.

  • Privacy and confidentiality restrictions.

What are your expectations for contacting you for updates?

  • Email/Zoom.

  • Zoom if necessary, majority email.

  • Meeting every week or every other week, depending on the project
    as much as we need.

Key takeaways from Week 4 Team Meeting

End Product:

  • Figma prototype of the new and improved website.

Week 6's meeting went exceptionally well. It was nice to check in with the SafeChat SV team. We went over what we have done so far and want he plan on doing as well.

Week 7 Reflection

My team and I decided to not meet this week due to us covering our meeting topics in class and already dividing up the work amongst ourselves. This week has been stressful for me because I am still figuring out how to transfer my Figma wireframes into WordPress. On the other hand, my wireframe designs are turning out very well.

Week 8 Reflection

Week 8's meeting went really well. I was given access to the Safechat SV typography, hex codes, and logos. I also asked a few questions regarding issues I had implementing my Figma wireframes into WordPress.

Week 9 Reflection

Week 9 is now going smoothly. For the first time, I had a private meeting with the Safechat board members. They assisted me at this meeting with some of the difficulties I was encountering utilizing WordPress' backend. Unfortunately, they couldn't fully respond to my question and told me to try my best and it wouldn't be a major deal if I couldn't figure out WordPress.

Week 10 Reflection

My team and I team were collaborating with SafeChat Silicon Valley, a nonprofit organization that provides resources and support for survivors of domestic violence. The website is operated by Nextdoor Solutions and Asian Americans for Community Involvement (AACI). Both organizations are dedicated to making a positive impact in their communities and giving people survivors access to vital knowledge and services. Over the course of this 11-week project, I've learned a lot about working with clients, our impact on the community, and the ever-evolving design process.

My interaction with a customer was a crucial component of my experience with the project. This was the first time I had the opportunity to work with a customer on a project, as my previous endeavors were personal passion projects where I was able to make all of the decisions without any constraints. The challenge of satisfying the needs and expectations of a customer provided valuable insights and lessons that will be useful in my future endeavors.

Public organizations played a significant role in the civic life of the people we impact through SafeChatSV. Ensuring that their live chat option is private is of the greatest importance to survivors. Resources need to be explicit about the rules on their website. Online digital privacy is very crucial for both parties, especially for our project and partner, SafeChat SV. Our target audience’s life has been touched by public organizations in several ways. Most recently, the "California Consumer Privacy Rights Act (CPRA)" was just enacted by the state of California and will take effect in January 2023. This recent passage has strengthened consumer data privacy regulations within California, granting individuals greater control over the use of their sensitive personal information. Under the provisions of the CPRA, individuals now have the option to opt-out of the tracking of their personal information across different websites and online services. This allows them to maintain greater privacy and control over their online data. In response to this development, operators of commercial websites and online services are required to disclose in their privacy policies how they respond to web browser "Do Not Track" signals or other mechanisms that facilitate consumer choice regarding data tracking. They must also declare whether or not third parties are or might be using their site or service for such tracking purposes. As 2023 draws near, the new law's passage will have a significant impact on the lives of our target audience.

This course has greatly enhanced my understanding and experience of engineering problem-solving and project management. The process of designing a project from problem identification to final prototype is a skill that I have not previously had the opportunity to develop. Working within a structured framework with specific deadlines has allowed me to take my initial ideas and bring them to fruition. Using Gantt charts allowed us to be able to plan out the steps for each week and ensure that we are on track to meet our deadlines, using meeting notes made it simple for us to review the important points of a meeting, and professional development came from delivering meeting notes to the client in advance. Innovation has the potential to drive significant societal change. Our group's innovative ideas will greatly benefit the lives of many individuals, providing them with the necessary resources and support to ensure their safety. I am proud of the impact that our work will have on survivors, and I am confident that it will make a meaningful difference in their lives.

Personally, I have gained valuable experience with design tools such as Figma, where I have learned how to create both high-fidelity and low-fidelity wireframes. I have also developed a deeper understanding of design principles such as font selection and color theory, as well as a broader vocabulary of user experience terminology. As a result, I am now better equipped to critically evaluate the design of websites, apps, and other products, and imagine how they could be improved. Overall, this course has given me a new mindset and set of skills that I can apply to my future design work. This course has also provided me with valuable experience in teamwork. In particular, I have learned about the importance of professionalism in team collaboration and the need to effectively communicate any issues or challenges that I may be facing. This has enabled me to more effectively contribute to the team and complete my work to a high standard. I have also gained a deeper understanding of the role of effective communication in achieving success as a team.

Week 10 has gone quite well. When I think back on the work my team and I have completed, we should be proud of ourselves. Using the Safechat hex codes and font, I have completed creating my high-fidelity wireframes. I was unable to successfully integrate the wireframes into WordPress, which is unfortunate. Nevertheless, I managed to obtain the HTML code. I was told by the SafeChat board members that this was all right and the following group could start working on integrating the wireframes into WordPress. Overall, I am very pleased with our progress and look forward to our presentation.
